Description: The witness called and left a voice-mail message with his sighting report. I subsequently called him back and interviewed him briefly. He was outside having a cigarette and noticed what he thought was a bright star. Then the star moved towards him and stopped. At that point an orange object was ejected out the left-hand side of the “star-like” object. The orange object then flew away at a high rate of speed, made a right hand turn and vanished behind a treeline.
Note: The witness does not have good vision (sees double sometimes). He also led me to believe that he has witnessed these phenomena before. Given this information this sighting could have been of a regular star which appeared to “jump” due to an optical illusion call “autokinesis.” Autokinesis occurs when you look at an object in the sky (star, planet, etc) long enough and it will appear to jump. The orange object that was ejected from the side of the first object could have been a shooting star (meteor).Note to Commenters: If you are reporting a sighting, be sure to include the location (city, state, country), date and time of your sighting.
