Description: This has my mother and I very puzzled. Like I said on the phone, it used to only appear every month or two, but after Christmas this year it has been almost nightly. I can’t send you a long clip where you can see it changing shapes so I will send you a variety of clips. Here is the first clip. This was taken on 12/28 at about 7:30 PM.
Note: The planet Jupiter was high on the horizon (55 degrees) to the southeast. Jupiter could be the object in the video. The large size in the video can be explained by the zoom setting of the camera. (The witness confirmed that she shot the footage with a high zoom setting.) The multiple colors could be due to atmospheric scattering of light. The witness had previously contacted a professional astronomer regarding this footage. The astronomer told her that she could have been viewing Jupiter. The footage was taken with a Canon “Powershot” camera.
My guess is that light is an out of focus image of a star (less likely, a planet) with obvious scintillation and refraction effects.
