Location of Sighting: Atchafalaya, Louisiana
Date of Sighting: May 3, 2017
Time of Sighting: 4:30 AM to 6:30 AM CDT
Description: I watched this light from about 10 miles before the 18-mile Atchafalaya Bridge all the way through Baton Rouge. Yes, I was on Interstate 10 heading eastbound on from Houston to Knoxville. I was at mile marker 108 when I noticed the bright light to my right up in the sky. I continued to watch this for the next 2 hours from the hours of 4:30 AM. to about 6:30 AM. I wouldn’t say that it was a clear sky because there were no visible stars out that night. I originally thought it was a airplane inbound, but noticed that the light was stationary and was not making any type of movement. There were aircraft in the sky that moved from left to right which I realized were just commercial airplanes. I even thought that perhaps a light was a helicopter stationary over the city. The light periodically maybe 3 times within the two-hour frame faded to a pinpoint and then came back to a bright light. If you can imagine driving at night and watching a car on the opposite lane coming at you take one of it’s headlights and put that in the sky and that’s how bright this light was. The light remained visible even when the sun began to come up. I eventually lost it during the daylight hours because I was having to refocus on the road and sky.
Note: A check of astronomical data showed that the witness was viewing the planet Venus which was very light low in the Eastern sky.Note to Commenters: If you are reporting a sighting, be sure to include the location (city, state, country), date and time of your sighting.
