Description: The witness called and left a voice-mail. I subsequently called her back and obtained the photo (shown above). She and her husband were traveling west on E. Thomas Road East of Phoenix in the Salt River Indian Reservation. They saw an intense thunderstorm over the mountains to the Northwest and took a cell phone photo. When later viewing the photo, they found a strange disked shaped object near the thunderstorm. (The object is highlighted and enlarged in the above photo.)

Note: Intense thunderstorms happen in the desert Southwest in July and early August due to a monsoon effect. A check of weather in the Phoenix area showed that winds were quite gusty in the vicinity of these storms. Gusts over 20 MPH were noted at Sky Harbor Airport. The photo does show some apparent wind-blown debris. The disk shaped object could be some debris suspended in the air out ahead of the thunderstorm in the thunderstorm “downdraft.” Then again it might be a genuine UFO?

  1. Doug says:

This particular storm has been called a 1 in a 1000 year event. This was not the average July desert thunderstorm. The wind was intense in this area, well over 20 mph locally. See http://www.azfamily.com/weather/Five-inches-of-rain-at-Anthem-164659956.html

I don’t know what it means, but it is interesting.
