Sighting Reports 2002

Woman Sees Four Massive Objects Moving Towards Mt. Rainier

Report: AT 6:14 AM PACIFIC TIME ON THANKSGIVING (NOVEMBER 28, 2002) ...(STILL DARK HERE THEN),  I SAW 4 "OBJECTS" IN THE SKY...MASSIVE IN SIZE AND HEADING IN THE DIRECTION OF MT. RAINIER!  AT FIRST I THOUGHT THEY WERE METEORS BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY LOOKED! THEY WERE ABOVE THE UPCOMING SUNSET AND I BELIEVE THE REFLECTION OF THE SUN IS WHAT HELPED THEM SHOW UP.  THEY WERE MOVING AT THE SPEED THAT YOU WOULD WATCH AN AIRLINER GOING OVERHEAD...THAT IS WHY I DISMISSED THE METEOR IDEA.  MUCH TOO SLOW MOVING FOR THAT!  OH AND THEY WERE VERY LOW.... IT WAS AWESOME!

NOW WHAT REALLY GOT ME WAS THE SIZE...IF YOU HELD YOUR  HANDS OUT AT ARMS LENGTH THE FIRST WOULD APPEAR AS ABOUT 5 INCHES IN LENGTH!  THE OTHER THREE FOLLOWING SLIGHTLY BEHIND AND BENEATH THAT ONE WERE APPROXIMATELY 3 INCHES IN LENGTH!

Investigation:Subsequent to receiving the above report from the witness we submitted a Freedom of Information (FOIA) request to the North American Defense Command (NORAD) to determine if they had spotted any space debris reentering the Earth's atmosphere or could determine any other reason for this sighting.  NORAD promptly replied to our FOIA and said that the objects sighted were due to the reentry of a Russian SL12 Rocket.  The trajectory of the rocket was right over Northwestern Washington which would account for the sighting by the witness.  (See NORAD FOIA for explanation and trajectory of the rocket.)

Conclusion

There is little doubt about the explanation that the objects sighted were due to the entry of a Russian SL12 rocket.  The time that the witness saw the objects almost exactly coincides with the time listed in the NORAD FOIA response.

Bottom line

Breakup of Russian SL12 rocket reentering the Earth's atmosphere.
