September 19, 1961-
On Route 3, New Hampshire, traveling home from a vacation in Canada
at around 10:15pm, Betty and Barney Hill -- a couple most likely not
to desire any special attention drawn to themselves as they were
interracial in the early 60s -- spotted a bright star which seemed
to be keeping pace with their vehicle. After losing sight of it for
a time, it reappeared in front of them and Barney stopped the car at
Indian Head to get a look at it through binoculars.
Betty and Barney continued their journey
home that night and found that they had lost about 2 hours time.
They both began having severe nightmares. They visited Dr. Benjamin
Simon (Boston psychiatrist) who hypnotized both of them
(independently) and found that they revealed a story about being
abducted by unknown creatures and were taken aboard a craft.
This is the first publicized story on alien abduction. The
stories later appeared in a series of five articles in Look Magazine
in 1965. Their story later appeared in a book titled
"Interrupted Journey" by John Fuller. The book was made into a
movie titled "UFO Incident." Barney preceded Betty in death
and died in 1969 at the age of 46.
