Description (In Witness's Own
Words): I ran across your site via
Google. I was sitting at work discussing with a coworker a strange
light I witnessed on December 13th in Ottawa, Canada. Half joking, I
did a Google on it and was surprised to see 2 other sightings around
the same time. Here is what I saw: It was 5:29 (I made a note of the
time). I was driving on Spencer Ave, right at the intersection of
Holland. I saw a light to the east, in the general area of downtown
Ottawa. It was very dark, and very clear that night, and I noted
only 1 other star visible in the area. The light was white-ish (just
like a star). I noticed no trail. When I first saw it, it was coming
from the direction of downtown Ottawa, moving west (marked on map).
It was on a straight path, not "falling" as you see from falling
stars from time to time (which is what I first thought it was). It
was moving *very* straight, and *very* fast. I'd say the speed was
comparable to the speed of a low-flying fighter jet, but it was not
low, nor did it make any sound. It took no more than 5 seconds to go
from where I first noticed it, to where I could no longer see it. I
believe this was approximately past island park Drive, where I could
see a sky scraper. The attached map shows where I believe to be the
approximate locations. When I first saw it, I started to turn onto
Holland. I went down Holland Avenue a bit and kept looking for the
light, but could no longer see it. In the end I drove back towards
Spencer and all the way to the end, but no longer saw the light. I'm
unsure exactly how it disappeared. It was not flickering or fading
at all, but as I was driving I was trying not to hit anything, and
somewhere between my looking at the light and looking at the road it
disappeared. Note we're talking about 5 or so seconds here, so
there's not much analysis I could do. I was not at a complete stop,
but I was not moving much at the time. It was probably a meteor or
something, but you never know. I made a note of the time only
because it was moving very straight, in no type of arc and didn't
appear to be fading, so I noticed how it seemed very unlike a
meteor, and a little odd. I've attached a crude map with my
approximate location if it helps. Of course, if you post my
anecdote, I'd appreciate not using my full name or email address!
Thanks,
Investigator's Notes: This is the third sighting that I
have received from Ottawa, Ontario on December 13, 2005. All
sightings were approximately within 15 minutes of one another. (Click
here to read about sighting at 5:30 PM and click here to read about sighting at
5:45 PM.) It is my belief that both of
these sightings are likely astronomical phenomena given that the sky
was very clear with one witness reporting a "streaking blue light"
and the other a slower moving light (with a tail) flying in a
straight line.
