Astronomical: Venus Rose to Southeast at 5:06 AM. Was Positioned at Elevation of 10 Degrees Above Horizon by 6:00 AM MST. Moon Was Not Visible at the Time of Sighting. Sunrise at 6:59 AM MST.

Description:  A man was watching TV and noticed a very bright light object out of the window.  He immediately grabbed his video camera and shot 13 minutes of footage.  He zoomed in and out several times while viewing the light.  When zoomed in he could see a large light with a smaller light to the right.  (At one point the small light moved to the left of the larger light.)  The man's wife also saw the light. She was watching the lights through binoculars.  Both witnesses were excited after the sighting.  The sighting was reported to a local TV station.  The station did not know what the object was, but did not air any footage. The witness used a Sony handheld video camera that uses 8 mm tapes.  (The model of video camera is not known.)

Investigator's Notes: I have tried to establish whether or not the witness taped Venus.  Given that Venus was only 10 degrees above the horizon at about 45 minutes after the witness made the tape I doubt if he could have seen Venus at the time.  (Venus would have been very low on the horizon and probably obscured by the mountains.)  The object did not appear to move much during the filming although the smaller object shifted sides.  It is not known if the smaller was a reflection or something.  The witness said that they could see the smaller light with the naked eye.  The video was taken indoors through a window.  At this time I don't have an explanation for what the witness taped. If time permits, I will conduct some investigation on this exciting case.
