Description (In Witness's Own Words): I was outside reading sky charts for training and I saw a large object. it appeared to be falling into Earth's gravity because it had an incandescent glow while it descended. Then when it was still very high probably in the stratosphere it shot rapidly in a straight line probably 2000 km in 2 seconds then shot back into outer space. This was the day NASA’s STS-121 astronauts landed aboard Discovery at 9:14 a.m.
Investigator's Notes: The sighting began as an apparent meteor, but the changing in motion from descent to rapid ascent eliminates the "meteor theory." Given available information I don't know what the witness sighted. The aerial characteristics don't fit any conventional aircraft.
