Sighting Reports 2006

Two Witnesses See Slow Falling Fireball - Video Taken

Date of Sighting: October 22, 2006
Time of Sighting: 7:45 PM CDT
Date Reported: October 22, 2006
Location of Sighting: Irving, Texas (Dallas-Fort Worth Area)
Latitude: 32.8 Degrees North
Longitude: 97.0 Degrees West
Number of Witnesses: Two
Number Witnesses Interviewed: Two
Weather: Clear Skies.

Description: The primary witness called and reported the sighting about 2 hours after the sighting occurred. She was quite excited by what she saw. She saw a bright red fireball slowy falling from the sky. The fireball was to the west of her position toward Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. (She said that it is about a 10 to 15 minute drive to the airport from her house.) She said that the fireball was observed for about 5 minutes before it passed below her field of view. She heard no sound. She was able to shoot a short video clip of the fireball.

Investigator's Notes: I have requested a copy of the witness's video. No other reports of fireball sightings in the area were reported. (I am still searching media outlets for other possible sightings.) Given the witness report it appears that the fireball was probably a meteor or falling space debris. (The slow rate of descent casts some doubt upon this explanation.) Any updates will be posted.
