Description (In Witness's Own Words):  I was able to witness a UFO examining something beneath it as it hovered over the western part of the city of Los Banos CA. I was waiting for my wife to exit the house so we could get going to work. I had the urge to check out the clear dark blue sky for some reason and that's when I saw what appeared to be a small piece of the moon (C shape). The sun was not due out for another 45 minutes or so but everything was clear. Temperature was about 50 degrees. There was suddenly white smoke or fog that was being extracted from around the object which was now a completely circular white object. All this time, there was no sound at all. A few seconds later I saw a very wide stream of light coming down from the UFO to about half way down. It surely did not reach the earth. It was so enjoyable and refreshing while watching this event that I felt like I had had my soul cleansed. The beautiful picture that I was witnessing reminded me of a nice computer desktop background. I then rushed to my truck to get my digital camera. Thirty seconds later, I was back in the driveway but my camera's new battery was dead and the UFO was also gone. Later that morning, my co-worker Liz informed me that MSN described the event as a rocket or missile that was fired from Vandenberg AFB CA. I can only say that I spent ten years in the Air Force and some of that time was at Edwards AFB CA, the Air Force’s “Experimental Center.” That was no rocket, missile, helicopter or weather balloon.

Investigator's Notes: The witness has provided a detailed report plus a good drawing of what he saw.  Apparently other sightings in the area were explained away as a rocket or missile launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base (AFB).  The witness said that he had been in Air Force at Edwards Base and that he was quite familiar with appearances of conventional craft (missiles, balloons, helicopters, etc).  Based on his report I have no explanation for what was sighted.
