Description (In Witness's Own Words): I sighted an orange light on 11/7/07 that looked similar to an orange yard light as if viewed from 1-2 miles away in light brightness, size, and color. It appeared in the eastern sky about 25-30 degrees off the horizon. It glowed for 3-4 seconds and then became about five times brighter. It looked as if a smaller piece about 1/4 the size shot off in a straight line to the north. Both pieces disappeared 3-4 seconds after it became brighter. There was no sound and it just seemed to hang in the sky. This also occured a few weeks ago. I did a search and came upon your site and realized the last time we saw this was after a football game at Colome S.D. on Oct. 22 the same night as the sightings in Burton and Kimball. As my two sons and I came home from the football game from 10:00-10:30 pm we saw the lights five seperate times pulling off the road to watch. The lights fell in a descending manner as a shooting star and became brighter until they disappeared. One of the lights contained four orange balls. They appeared in the south and eastern skys 25-30 degrees off the horizon. My sons saw one more of them on the way to school the next morning at just before sunrise. They said that they could see a trail of smoke following the orange light with what looked to be a stick falling from it after the light went out. There was a lot of military jets passing over during the afternoon of Oct. 22 as I was outside working on our ranch. We all assumed that what we saw were flares from military aircraft. There were several other people who witnessed the lights that evening of Oct. 22 after the football game. The only odd thing is that as we pulled off the road to watch the lights and shut off our pickup truck and there was no sound of aircraft in the air.

Investigator's Notes: The witness has a hunch that the lights were military flares. Given his description I believe that military flares dropped from aircraft is a likely explanation for this sighting and the other sightings that occurred in Eastern South Dakota and Northeastern Nebraska on October 22, 2007.
