Sighting Reports 2007

Witness Sees 4 Lights That Exhibited A "Converging & Diverging" Pattern

Date of Sighting: November 11, 2007
Time of Sighting: 9:15 PM EST
Date Sighting Reported: November 12, 2007
Duration of Sighting: 15 Minutes
Location of Sighting: Columbia, Maryland
Latitude: 39.23 Degrees North
Longitude: 76.9 Degrees West
Number of Witnesses: One
Weather: Skies Were Cloudy With Cloud Bases at 7,000 Feet. Visibility Was 10 Miles. Winds Were Calm.

Description (In Witness's Own Words): I was outside with dog at approximately 9:15pm, when I noticed 4 round white lights moving in distinct pattern in the sky. (Even the dog looked up at the sky to the lights.) The lights appeared to be above the clouds. The 4 lights would meet in the center, then shoot out in 4 directions, loop and return to the middle. The lights appeared to be getting closer so I got freaked out and ran inside. The sighting was approximately 15 minutes long. The lights suddenly vanished.

Second Report by Witness (In Response to Investigator Questions): I feel totally crazy about the whole thing.  I would rather have a normal explanation to help ease my feelings.  I was even too terrified to take any footage with my camera.  Wish I had now!  At first I thought it may be a light show of some sort, but I could not see any beams leading into the sky.  Considering that the lights were muffled through the clouds they had to be pretty high.  The trajectory of the lights was also considerable and faster than the speed of a plane.  It gave me the impression that the lights were above the neighbor's house to the east of my house.  The other thing that gave me a clue that it may not be a light show, is the fact that the whole pattern of lights moved slightly to the west and south before they suddenly disapeared.  Before the lights disappeared a plane appeared to fly very close to the furthest light to the right.    In talking to one of my patients about it 2 days later, she also reported seeing a weird formation of lights in the sky moving in a similar parttern, while she was driving at night.  She was not sure of the time, but knew it was after 8 pm and before 9 pm as she was watching Desperate Housewifes after 9 pm.  Her impression was similar to my initial impression of some sort of light show in the sky, but oddly neither of us had ever seen a light show in this area before.    A coworker reported seeing in the news, the night after the sighting, that someone in the area had footage of a dark cloudy object near a gas station in the area.  Is this true?

Investigator's Notes: The witness was quite impacted by the sighting and was too terrified to take a video. Apparently others had seen the lights at or close to the time of this sighting. Given the weather conditions the possibility exists that ground based lights could have been shining and reflected off of the cloud deck which was at 7,000 feet. However, no evidence exists that this is true. This is only a "possible explanation."
