Description: One of the witnesses read about the October 22, 2007 sightings near Platte, South Dakota and Burton, Nebraska. The witness phoned in the sighting saying that she and 14 other members of a hunting party saw essentially the same lights as described in the other two reports. Investigator's Notes: Obviously many people witnessed the lights in eastern South Dakota and Northeastern Nebraska on October 22, 2007. The source of these lights is a mystery. A call to Ellsworth Air Force Base (AFB) near Rapid City said that they do not conduct excercises in the area of the sightings. A call to Offutt AFB in southeast Nebraska has not been answered. Therefore I can't say for sure if the lights were due to military exercises (flares). Later information from another group of witnesses in Colume, South Dakota suggests that these lights were from military flares. Click here to read about the Colume sighting.
