Man Sees Silver Disk Shaped Object Pursued by Military Jets

Date Sighting Reported: August 17, 2007
Duration of Sighting: 30 to 40 Seconds
Location of Sighting: 1.5 MI Off Coast of E. Florida (New Smyrna Beach, FL). Location is About 30 MI N of Cape Canaveral.
Latitude: 29.0 Degrees North
Longitude: 80.25 Degrees West
Number of Witnesses: One
Weather: Clear Skies. Good Visibility. (Per Observation of Witness.)

Description: I was about one and a half miles out from shore from New Smyrna Beach Fl. (due west). Skies were very clear and no clouds were. About the size of a bus at that distance i saw a shiny (polished steel or silver in color), oval or disk shaped object. The object had a slow, jerky southern movement (about the speed of a slow Cessna airplane). I saw the object for about 30-40 seconds. The object stopped in mid flight and hovered for a few seconds then started again at an angle towards the shore (acute angle turn from a dead stop). A wave then obscured my vision and I was unable to see it again. However, 3-4 min. later 3 Air Force jets (swept wings like on a F-100 or super saber or like a Thud) approached from the same direction. Two of them were very high, but the third was low enough to see the swept wings. This last jet broke from its southern path and curved into the space exactly where my sighting occurred. Can you confirm any other sightings of it? They obviously had it on their radar! I called the local FAA radar and they "didn't have any information". And I also called the local newspaper (7:00 pm) and left a message, but no one got back to me? I hope you can confirm by other sightings or by the Air Force's flight plans/radar readings. Let me know if you need any other information. Thanks.

Investigator's Notes: The witness phoned to followup his written report. He stated that the object made no sound, left no trail, and that the object was slightly smaller than a dime held at arm's length. He lost sight of the object because he was in the water at the time and a wave splashed in his eyes. However, a few minutes later he noticed military jets that appeared to be in pursuit of the object. This is an interesting report because it occurred in the daytime under good weather conditions. The witness says that the object was "disk shaped." The witness is familiar with conventional and military aircraft because he was previously in the Air Force. This fact adds credibility to this sighting.
