Description (In Witness's Own Words): I just wanted to put this in the record somewhere: Last night, 08-30-2007, at 21:17 to 21:18 hrs my wife, two children, and I were standing on my back deck looking at the night sky north of Troutdale. The sky was clear, there was no wind, and it was about 75 degrees outside. At that time we all saw two objects pass together over the night sky moving in a straight path from NNW to SSE. They were easy to see as they passed overhead. They were not points of light, but rather two round 'balls' about 1/4 the apparent diameter of the moon, bright, but not as bright as the moon. Anyone glancing up at that time could not have missed this strange sight. The two objects appeared to quickly move back and forth very close to each other every second or so in synchrony during the two minutes it took for them to cross the sky. Two of us thought they may have been circling each other. It was very, very strange. It was impossible to determine their altitude or speed, but together they passed over us in a straight path at about the same speed as a passing satellite. Anyone else see this or hear anything about it? I'm sure there's a perfectly valid explanation for this, but maybe not.

Second Report by Witness (In Response to Investigator Questions): The objects left no trail or debris and emitted no sound. The objects shined as bright when they disappeared as when they first appeared. My 8 year old described it best when she said the two "balls" of light appeared to be trying to make crooked "8s" as they went across the sky. The witness stated that he sees satellites often and was actually looking for satellites when he viewed these anomalous lights.

Investigator's Notes: Given available information I am not sure what the witnesses sighted. The lights were quite large considering that they were observed to be 1/4 the size of a full moon. The Witnesses could accurately make this deduction because the moon was nearly full (80% illuminated). Satellites are a possibility, but the "circling motion" places doubt on this explanation. The observations also do not fit falling space debris or meteors. Any updates to this case will be posted.
