Description (In Witness's Own Words): When I first saw that object up there at 4:40 I saw a large plane well above it with a contrail heading north. I was thinking how cool it would have been to tape that - it looked sort of pretty. Then I realized, wait, what is that bright object in the SE view (from my east window view)? So I turned on my camcorder, and by this time the plane had flew on by so I concentrated on that bright object and found it in the view finder. It was so STATIONARY, that I thought it was probably just a planet or star (and you hear me comment on that in the video). Then after I recorded it for close to 3 minutes, I stopped the camcorder, and went into the living room and showed it to my husband through the EAST living room window. He saw it and thought ok, it was probably a star to planet too. Then the twins and I look to the NE and see another plane coming over towards our way heading to the WSW and it flew over our house, and we chatted for a bit about it. Then I closed the curtains, went on back to my computer room, looked out to see if the bright object was there, but it was gone! The object WAS there at 16:38, I started taping at 16:40, and THEN GONE by the time I looked out at it again at 16:50. I turned on the camcorder to record the area to show it was gone. I ran into the living room again and told my husband that the object is gone, and he looked and could not see it either. Then at 16:52, as I was talking about how the object was gone, that strange plane without blinking lights, but only a bright light on it, flies by and I tape that. I later ran out side to look for the bright object, and it was nowhere to be seen. At that time I could not see any other stars or planets out yet either. Well, I don't know what it was (highly doubt it was a weather balloon), and whatever it was during the short time I taped it. I saw that strange other object near it very briefly. Like I said, while I was taping it, I could even see it, but it was so brief I thought I was seeing things. When I played back the video that is when I see it at three different times in the video near the bright object. That is also partly why I don't think it was a planet or star. William, I AGAIN I came so close to calling you after I lost sight of this object because stars or planets don't disappear in that short of time. I was really freaked out and also ticked off that I did not tape it longer or notice how it disappeared.

Investigator's Notes: The witness originally thought that the object was a bright planet because it wasn't moving. She later realized this was not the case because the object disappeared after several minutes. Later analysis proved that no bright planets were visible in the area of the video. (It was too early for planets to be visible even if they would have been present.) A "screening analysis" showed that the object was quite likely not the weather balloon launched at around 4 PM PST from Salem, OR. Although transport winds were blowing towards Portland the balloon would not have had time to travel into the area where the object was taped. It is my opinion that this object is unidentified. Another mystery is the one bright light on the aircraft which later was taped in the area where the object had previously been. One would expect to see other lights on near the landing gear and on each wing. This object could pose a safety risk to aircraft because it appeared in the flight pattern of air traffic to Portland Airport.
