Description (In Witness's Own Words With Some Edits): We were traveling eastbound on highway 44 approximately 7 miles west of Platte. We begin to see round lights close to the road.

It seemed that others were also witnessing the same event as there were 3 other vehicles pulled off to the side of the road for no apparent reason other than to watch.

We pulled to the side of the road to watch for around 20 or 30 minutes.

The first light was a single large round glow that appeared as if from no where around 25 degrees off the flat horizon. And appearing only around 1/4 ro 1/2 mile away. The light might appear like a stadium light turning on. It was bright, but not so bright that you could not stare at it. It was white. The light appeared for a few seconds and then would go out.

A few seconds later the same light appeared and then another, then another and lastly one more. The pattern was a sequence of four lights all equal and apparently in sync with one another lighting up side by side with a small aount of space between each light. One, two, three then four lights lighting in sequence one at a time until all four lights were bright and large. The size seemed larger than a stadium light, around 3 or 4 times larger than a street light.

After the lights lit up first one, then two lights on, then three lights lit up and lastly four lights glowing. Then all four lights softly went out.

We were in amazement as the lights were quite close and we knew that we had all three of us as witnesses. With no alcohol influence or drug influence nor is there any predisposition to see lights or UFO's.

This one, two, three and four light show happened again several times, but it moved to a different location.

Then we began to see where the lights had come from. There were small white lights that blinked on and off and more than one. There were 3 of these white blinking lights. They were similar to a star only distinctly blinking on and off. Occasionally the blinking light would go out completely and then come back on. The blinking lights constantly moved around the heavens quickly. From the east to the west quickly also the lights ascended or went up and with quickness.

As we watched the blinking lights they would suddenly light up, one light, then two lights (side by side with space between them) then three and lastly four. All four lit up and then go out. Occasionally there would only be two lights or three lights that lit up in sequence.

When one light would light up, it stayed lit and then another light would light up beside that one and they both stayed lit...then another light would light up showing three and finally four lights lit up. Then they would go out.

Twice we saw a single light light up appearing just over the top of a house once and once over the crop field. Several times the lights would be over the tree tops and several times almost straight up.

We also noticed that there was a whirling sound sometimes, but other times there was absolutely no sound. Additionally we noticed the blinking lights occasionally left a vapor trail but not straight. Instead the vapor trail looked like a 3/4 circle. The trail was not very large, but rather just a partial ring in the air right where the white light was blinking.

It was remarkable.

We finally decided to go to the home where we were staying and alert a couple of persons we were staying with. One of those persons came outdoors. It was around 10:00 pm by this time. We showed him the blinking lights and he was amazed at how fast small white lights blinked (not red & green like aircraft). He was amazed at how rapidly they appeared in one place of the sky and only 30 or 45 seconds later the same light would appear on the other horizon.

We told him....."just wait, you've not seen anything yet!"

Right after that the lights again lit up. (They looked like round white light globes.) Only this time it was only 2 lights side by side that came one (one at a time until both were lit) and the lights were moving away now slowly to the south.

This 4th person we feel helped substantiate our sighting. This person got to see the rapid moving white blinking lights and the vapor trail as well as two large globe lights twice.

It was profound. None of us had ever seen anything like it prior.

Investigator's Notes: I first thought the witnesses were observing flares probably used in military exercises. The two closest air force bases (AFB) are Offutt AFB in SE Nebraska which is about 200 miles to the southeast. The other base is Ellsworth AFB near Rapid City, SD which is about 250 miles to the west. The only confict with the flares theory is that the lights were observed to ascend. In addition no aircraft activity was heard or seen in the area. The witness described hearing a "whirling sound." My impression is that the witness felt that the sound was unusual and not a sound heard from normal airplanes or helicopters. Apparently several people saw the lights because the witness said that 3 other cars were parked alongside the road apparently observing the lights. A similar sighting was made nearby at Burton, Nebraska on the same night. Click here to read about the Burton sighting. Burton is about 50 Miles Southwest of Platte. A hunting party of 15 reported similar lights at 9 PM on October 22. Kimball is about 25 miles North of Platte. Click here to read about the Kimball sighting. Calls were made to the closest Air Force Bases (Ellsworth near Rapid City, South Dakota and Offutt Near Omaha, Nebraska.) The public affairs officer at Ellsworth said that no exercises are conducted in the area of the sightings. The officer at Offutt has not responded to my inquiry. Later information received from a group of witnesses at Colume, South Dakota suggests that the source of the lights could be military flares. Click here to read this report.
