Sighting Reports 2007

Campers See Lights Moving South Stop & Reverse Direction

Date of Sighting: August 31 & September 1, 2007
Time of Sighting: Between 11 PM and 12:30 AM PDT
Date Sighting Reported: October 29, 2007
Duration of Sighting: 20 to 25 Minutes
Location of Sighting: Tualatin, Oregon (About 12 MI SW of Portland)
Latitude: 45.38 Degrees North
Longitude: 122.76 Degrees West
Number of Witnesses: Several (Exact Number Unknown)
Weather: Witness Stated Skies Were Partly Cloudy Towards the Northwest.

Description (In Witness's Own Words): The sky was partly cloudy to the northwest but clear to the east. No moon was present. No visual or audio indication of conventional aircraft (planes or helicopters) were observed in the area. I was hanging out with some neighbors around a campfire and witnessed what I thought was at first a satellite tracking from North to South. I've seen many satellites in the past and this one was unusual because it was moving very slowly. I watched it for 10 minutes or so and noticed it would move south then stop then move again and at times make retrograde movement. The object appeared as a constant white light it's distance unknown, but appeared to be at high altitude. The object tracked south for about 20 degrees from my original sighting then made an abrupt right angle change in direction heading due east. It move eastward at the same rate then was fixed in one location. It then appeared to move jog north and south slightly for several minutes then vanished instantly. Shortly after first spotting it, I brought it to the attention of one of my neighbor friends and he tracked it with me and can corroborate the sighting. The unusual characteristic that makes this a curiosity is the retrograde movement and right angle change in direction. Planes and satellites don't do these kinds of movements.

Investigator's Notes: The witness is correct: Satellites and planes don't make right angle turns and don't reverse direction of movement. Given these facts I don't know what the witness observed.
