Sighting Reports 2008

2 Youths See Bright Light in Night Sky That Disappeared

Date of Sighting: January 25, 2008
Time of Sighting: 8:20 to 8:25 PM EST
Date Sighting Reported: January 25, 2008
Duration of Sighting: About 5 Minutes
Location of Sighting: Beachwood, New Jersey (E. New Jersey Near Atlantic Coast)
Latitude: 39.93 Degrees North
Longitude: 74.2 Degrees West
Number of Witnesses: Two
Number of Witnesses Interviewed: One
Weather: Clear Skies. Stars Visible. (Per Witness Observation.)

Description: One of the witnesses telephoned and reported the sighting a few minutes after it happened. The witness was driving to his home with a friend. They sighted a bright light in the southerly sky that they first thought was a bright planet. The light was stationary and was flashing red and blue. The apparent size was that of a nickel held at arm's length. The witnesses observed the light for a few minutes and then parked the car. They then immediately looked in the area of the sky where the light had been seen and found that it was gone.

Comments: It is difficult to say what the two witnesses saw. Given that they saw a red flashing light could mean that they saw an airplane at a large distance. (Airplanes have a red light on the left wing and a green light on the right wing.) However, the witness who made the report said that a blue light was sighted so no green light was observed. Perhaps at a distance it might have been difficult to distinguish colors accurately. Aircraft at large distances can appear to hover eventhough they are moving (sometimes several hundred MPH).
