Description: Listen to Audio Clip of Original Witness Report (MP3)
The witness called and left a voice-mail message immediately after his sighting. He saw four lights that moved across the sky individually (about 10 minutes apart). The lights were flashing white and red. Each light took about 5 minutes to traverse the sky. Two of the lights stopped and hovered almost directly overhead before moving again. All of the lights moved from the mountains on an eastward vector. (Some of the lights moved northeast and others to the southeast.) One light split into two. No sound was heard.
Comments: The sighting occurred at a time when satellites are not visible. (Satellites are normally visible a few hours after sunset and few hours before sunrise.) A check of the heavens-above web site (www.heavens-above.com) indicated that the first visible satellite occurred at around 5 AM MDT. The lights also left no trail so that rules out meteors or space junk reentry. Therefore the sighting is classified as unidentified.
