Date of Sighting: June 13, 2008
Time of Sighting: Began at 7:50 PM MDT
Date Sighting Reported: June 13, 2008
Duration of Sighting: 8 Minutes
Location of Sighting: Denver, Colorado
Latitude: 39.75 Degrees North
Longitude: 105.04 Degrees West
Number of Witnesses: Two
Number of Witnesses Interviewed: One
Weather: Clear Skies. (Per Witness Observation.) The Witness Stated That He Could See Pike's Peak Which is 75l Miles to the South. Therefore Visibility Was Excellent. The Winds Aloft Were Primarily From the West-Northwest Below 10,000 Feet and From the West-Southwest Above 10,000 Feet.
Astronomical: Sunset Was at 8:28 PM MDT. Moon Was 71% Illuminated and Would Have Been in the Southeast at the Time of Sighting at an Elevation of About 30 Degrees Above the Horizon.
Description: The witness reported the sighting within an hour of occurrence. He stated that he was viewing the moon through 140X binoculars. (The witness stated that he used "stargazing" binoculars mounted on a tripod. The binoculars are manufactured by Spyon.) He noticed an object about 5 degrees to the right of the moon. The object was dark gray with a light on top, in the middle and on the bottom. The object appeared to be wobbling and turning on its axis. It revealed a shape like the planet Saturn when it turned on its axis. The object moved towards the east with a slightly south vector. The object did not move in a straight line, but in a curved trajectory. The witness lost sight of the object because it become too small to see as it was moving away from him. The witness's wife saw the object without using binoculars. The witness stated that the object was about the size of the planet Venus to the naked eye.
Comments: The witness made a very explicit report. I spoke at length with him. He has a professional background and made good detailed observations. The witness has made a sketch and promised to fax the sketch. I have not yet received the sketch. Given the witness's report, I do not have an explanation for his sighting. It is unlikely that many saw the object because of its size and the fact that it occurred in the daytime when it would have been less obvious. The winds aloft show that this object could have been drifting with the wind. This doesn't necessarily mean that it was a balloon, but only that it was moving with the wind. |
