Sighting Reports 2008

Two See Extremely Bright Orange Flash in Night Sky

Date of Sighting: June 23, 2008
Time of Sighting: 1:20 to 1:30 AM PDT
Date Sighting Reported: June 23, 2008
Duration of Sighting: 1 Second
Location of Sighting: Everett, Washington
Latitude: 47.89 Degrees North
Longitude: 122.26 Degrees West
Number of Witnesses: Two
Number of Witnesses Interviewed: One
Weather: Clear Skies. Visibility 10 Miles. Winds Were From the North at 5 MPH.

Description: The witness phoned in her sighting on the same day that it happened. She stated that she was driving and her nephew was directly ahead her in his car. Suddenly the sky lit up with a bright orange flash. The witness felt "panicked" and thought that "it was all over." No sound was heard and the flash lasted for just for a "split second." A few minutes later upon arriving home she talked about the incident with her nephew who also witnessed the event.

Comments: The weather shows that no rain showers or thunderstorms were in the area. Perhaps the flash could have been disintegration of a meteor in the atmosphere, but normally a sound is heard. Therefore I don't have an explanation for the sighting. I am not aware of any reports in the media regarding a "bright flash" in the sky. Not many people would have seen it given that it occurred in the early morning hours of a workday. Anyone who witnessed this event is urged to file a report.
