Description: I was driving home late last night and I began to see flashes in the sky shortly after I had stopped to get gas. It began as I drove down Auburn Folsom road. I suddenly saw a bright light that flashed for just an instant. It seemed so close to me that I thought it was a camera going off, like the ones on stop lights. There were no traffic lights in sight, but I quickly dismissed it as just a random flash. As I continued on my long drive home I repeatedly witnessed this flashing light. It was a powerful light that lit up the whole sky like lightning, but it had such a cold and uniform look to it that I knew it must have been synthetic. The flashes happened completely at random from what I could tell. As I approached the freeway entrance to highway 50 the flashes became more frequent. I then looked out into the clear sky. (This was the first time during my drive when my view of the sky wasn't blocked by trees.) In an attempt to discern where it was coming from I saw that the flash had an epicenter. It appeared to be a white hot light with rays of blue and yellow spanning out from it. As I got on the freeway I headed in the opposite direction from where I had seen the epicenter, but I continued to see these strong and quick flashes of light. For another 30 minutes or so I watched these erratic flashes all the way until I reached Shingle Springs. After arriving at my house I stood in the driveway for a few extra moments just to catch an additional glimpse of the perplexing light. The light pulsed again, but it seemed to be faint and much farther to the east. I'm not sure if this experience counts as a UFO encounter, but it certainly was a strange happening. I have no clue how to explain it. There's just no way that a light could be visible to me for that great of a distance unless it was moving.

Comments: The witness is not claiming that she saw a UFO. She is "perplexed" by she saw. I am too as I am not sure what she sighted. I supposed that it could have been a helicopter searching for something, but one would think that the helicopter sound would have been audible.
