Three Brothers See Light Streak Across Sky & Then Stop

Weather: Skies Were Mostly Cloudy (Broken Cloud). Cloud Heights Were at 7,000 Feet. A Few Towering Cumulus Clouds Were Observed. Visibility Was 10 Miles. Winds Were From the Northeast at 7 MPH.

Description: I was outside with my two brothers in our field, and it was about 10 minutes from being dark. I know for sure this month of June was the exact month. The year was 2008. So, I looked up and saw what looked like a star shooting across the sky, but then it stopped. I quickly got my two brothers to look up so they could see it. It sat there for a minute, and then was gone. This object was so fast it left what looked like a trail of smoke. How in the world could this be any thing us humans have on this Earth? My other two brothers were freaked out to. The color was like the color of Mars. The light went from west to east at a 12:00 clock sun point fashion. the duration of the sighting was 10 to 15 seconds. The location of our sighting was Sash, Texas which is about 15 to 20miles from Paris, Texas. Please email us back, because we would like to know what this could have been besides a UFO.

Comments: My initial impression was that the witnesses saw a meteor because they described a trail of smoke. However, the fact that the light stopped discounts the meteor explanation. This same witness reported several sightings in a few day period that occurred at other times. This casts some doubt on his interpretation of aerial phenomena.
