Sighting Reports 2008 Man Sees Bright Light With Zig-Zag MotionDate of Sighting: January 7, 2008 Description: The witness called to report his sighting about 90 minutes after it happened. He was delivering pizza and saw a bright light to the immediate north of the constellation "Orion." (Orion was located to the WSW at the time of sighting.) The witness stated that the light appeared to be zig-zagging, but remained in the same area of the sky. After delivering a pizza he noticed that the light still remained in the same area of the sky. Comments: It is believed that the witness sighted the planet Mars which was located immediately to the north of the constellation Orion at the time of the sighting. Mars has a brightness of magnitude -1.9 making it brighter than any celestial object at the time of the sighting. The apparent motion of the light was likely due to an optical illusion due to a phenomenon called autokinesis. |
