Sighting Reports 2009 Red, Green, Blue Blinking Light Hovers in Night Sky
Date of Sighting: November 2, 2009 Description: I am in SaddleBrook and there is an object over the Catalina Mountains at about 2000 - 3000 feet above the ridge line with red, green and blue blinking lights. It has been "hovering" in the same place for over 1/2 hour which a helicopter would normally not do. It does not look like it has A/C lights. The flashing is quite rapid. I cannot hear any noise, and even in my small binoculars I cannot make out a shape, but I suspect that it would be the size of a twin engine airplane. It is not moving at all.It is simply hovering. It is still there and not moving. Note: The witness obviously reported this sighting while the light was still visible. I checked for bright celestial objects (stars, planets) that sometimes can appear as flashing lights when low on the horizon(if the air contains signifant atmospheric particles like smoke). At the time of the sighting the star Sirius was visible in the southeastern sky (direction of the Catalina Mountains) at 14 degrees above the horizon. Sirius is the brightest star in the sky with a magnitude of -1.5. Given this scenario the witness could have sighted the star Sirius. |
