Sighting Reports 2009

Woman & Daughter See Bright Illuminating Light in Night Sky

Date of Sighting: February 22 and 23, 2009
Time of Sighting: Around 7:30 CST
Location of Sighting: Chicago, Illinois

Description: I got off at Austin (Ii-290 Expressway) and headed north. As I was driving I noticed to the left of me this illuminating light that I thought was a "special star." I told my daughter to look at the star as I was driving. My daughter replied to me that she thought that it was an airplane. I said, no I don't think so because it's too bright and it's not moving. When I got to North Avenue I made a left and now I was headed west and ended up back heading north and went to my mom's house. I keep binoculars in my car so I pulled them out (after I was parked and on feet) and tried to get a look, but the way my mom's house was shaped I had to wait until I entered. The sky was clear and there were stars in the sky. This light was much bigger and did not move. It was low also.

Note: I believe it is very likely that the witnesses saw the planet Venus which was very bright in the evening sky at the date and time of the sighting. Venus had brightness magnitude of -4.8 at the time of the sighting. This is a very high magnitude brightness.
