Sighting Reports 2009 Four Witness Two Erratic Moving Lights in Night Sky
Date of Sighting: October 9, 2009
Time of Sighting: 7 PM CDT
Location of Sighting: Hattiesburg, Mississippi (S. Central MS About 100 MI NE of New Orleans)
Description: My wife and I, with two friends, were driving home from the RedBox. Cutting through a parking lot, looking westward, we saw two bright white lights in the sky that were almost stationary. We stopped and watched the lights. A plane flew nearby with a small red-blinking light, from north to south, giving us some reference that these two objects were either much closer or much brighter. We all agreed these were not planes. I rolled down the window and listened for sound, but heard none. The two objects seemed to be very slowly descending at approximately the same speed, but at slightly different altitudes. Occasionally one of the lights would disappear momentarily and then come back, but having descended very quickly. Then the white light on the left moved extremely quickly down and toward the other object for only 1 second and then stopped. As it darted right and down, it left a fiery streak across the sky like a meteorite falling, but it only lasted a second. Both objects winked out and came back several times as they descended below our line of sight.
Note: "Erratic" behavior certainly defines this sighting. Assuming that the observations are accurate I have no explanation for this sighting.
