Sighting Reports 2009

Bright Object Seen to Moving Out of a Cloud

Date of Sighting: March 28, 2009
Time of Sighting: 5 PM PDT
Location of Sighting: Los Angeles, California

Description: I had stepped out of the laundry room of my apartment building to the parking lot beside the building. I looked up into the sky and saw this fascinating cloud that looked like a feather. I said to myself: "There's got to be something behind that cloud." There was. When the cloud had moved away I saw a bright object. At first I thought it was a star, but thought, "It couldn't be at this hour." I continued to watch it. It seemed to be stationary like a star as the Earth moved. I went to my apartment to get my binoculars. This took about 3 or 4 minutes. The object was still there, but it was a bit dimmer. Whenever I looked at it with my binoculars and tried to focus on it I couldn't get the object into focus. When there was a moment of focus it didn't look like a star. It seemed to have bright and dark areas. Interestingly, as I watched it through the binoculars another smaller object went from West to East. It was much smaller than the first object and I could focus on that one. As the Earth continued to turn and the Sun slowly began to set the object became dimmer and dimmer until it was no longer visible.

Note: Venus is quite bright in the western sky in March, 2009. However, it is unusual to see Venus in daylight, but it is possible. Therefore the witness could have seen Venus. However, the second object seen moving eastward would have been something else.
