Date of Sighting: August 15, 2009
Time of Sighting: Between 7:30 and 8:30 PM EDT
Location of Sighting: Massapequa, New York (On South Shore of Long Island about 25 MI East of Downtown New York, City)
Description: I was sitting in backyard with my family on Long Island, New York when I looked up in the sky and said what is that? We all looked at what appeared to be what we first thought was a plane on fire traveling from South to North. We continued to look at this fiery ball traveling slowly across the sky. It was then blocked by a tree and when we got up to look again it was gone. Did anyone else see it?
Note: The report sounds like a meteor. A meteor (yellow fireball) sighting was reported to the American Meteor Society from Pawling, New York at about 10:30 PM on August 15. No meteor sightings were reported at the time of the above sighting.
