Date of Sighting: August 5, 2009
Time of Sighting: 10 PM PDT
Location of Sighting: Palmdale, California (About 20 Miles NNE of Los Angeles)

Description: I was looking north and I noticed a small white light moving along side a plane. The light grew bigger as it passed about 15 miles away in the distance. The plane flew past at a higher rate of speed and then noticed that the white light I saw was a blob of bright light that looked solid like it was not a light. I also saw a faint beam of light directed straight down. The white light was about 500 feet off of the ground and looked to be about 25 to 30 feet across in size. There were no marker lights. It was just a white light that looked solid. It didn't look like a flash light or police light. I went to grab a camera and video, but it was gone 2 seconds later. The object was headed East towards Angeles National Forest and the 2 highway. I have some video. The file is too large to upload.

Note: This obviously an important sighting given that an unknown object is close to an aircraft. However, this is assuming that the witness's observations are accurate. The above video was acquired over a week after the original report. The video appears to show three lights in a triangular formation with one of the lights 'fading in and out.' (Perhaps this is due to the focus or zoom settings of the camcorder.) The video does not show a light near an airplane.

Update - August 21, 2009: This whole report could be a hoax. We just found out that the witness sent a video taken on July 18, 2009 at Santa Cruz, California. Click here to read the Santa Cruz report. Apparently the witness downloaded the video which was posted on YouTube and then sent it with his report. Given this scenario the efficacy of the whole report is compromised.
