Description: I came home last night from picking up my girlfriend at work at 10 PM. As we were coming around the back of the house (getting my dog) I noticed a red light through the woods. There is NOTHING through these woods except trees and that is it. There are no roads on the other side (at least not for a quarter mile or so), nothing. So here I am standing there staring at the red light and all the hair on the back of my neck stands up. I told my girlfriend (who had walked ahead of me without seeing it) to come look. She came over and saw it too. It looked like a beautiful glowing red ball of some sort. It didn't move, make a sound or anything. It just sat there. In the woods. I could only guess it was maybe 100 feet into the woods and maybe 20 feet up. I stared at it speechless for about thirty seconds and suddenly it just extinguished. My girlfriend, was scared and went inside. She kept trying to think of things it could have been. (It was just the power pole.) There is an old power pole that used to carry the power to the home years ago before the property became more developed. There is no power to it at all. Plus, the old pole is about 50 feet to the right of where the light was, and only about 15 feet into the woods. This morning I went out to get a better look at the sight. I didn't go into the woods, but I just can't understand how this red light was floating out there. There is nothing there except trees. AND the light was completely self-contained. It didn't give off any glow or illuminate anything. It was by far the most strange thing I have ever seen, and as I illustrated I believe I have seen some odd things in this area.

Note: Strange sightings near Bangor Submarine Base (and other nuclear bases) are not unusual. Books have been written about the subject. Recently Robert Hastings wrote a book titled "UFOs and Nukes: Extraordinary Encounters at Nuclear Weapons Sites," 2008. (Available for order from author at
