Sighting Reports 2009

5 Bright Objects (1 Red) Move in Odd Patterns in Daylight Sky

Date of Sighting: March 20, 2009
Time of Sighting: 11:30 AM PDT
Location of Sighting: Tracy, California (N. California About 40 Miles E of Oakland)

Description: I saw five bright objects (one red in color) moving in odd patterns at what looked to be at very high altitude. One object was either lower or larger and stayed in a stationary position as the other four smaller or higher objects moved around the larger one. Sometimes the objects made what looked to be 90 degree turns. Two objects then moved in unison eastward and eventually vanished. One object moved southward and then vanished. The larger object stayed stationary as well as a smaller one. The larger object seemed to gain altitude straight up along with the smaller object until they too vanished.

Additional Comments Received From Witness: That same day and possibly one hour earlier I heard a single jet fighter over the east side of Oceanside, California. I was outside in my back yard gardening. I looked up because it was rare to hear a jet fighter in this area. As  I visually scanned the sky looking for the fighter, but instead I saw for about 10 seconds 5 objects at a very high altitude. The object were higher than any type of bird reaches, but still very visible. I do not know if there is any correlation with hearing the fighter and what I did see. They were obviously some type of craft. I have a Group Propulsion Certificate and studied aeronautical engineering prior to entering the computer industry. The craft were flying fast, but still visible because of their size and high altitude. They kept moving, shifting positions and patterns in relation to each other, but maintained the formation. They suddenly made a 90 degree turn to the west, toward the ocean. I wondered if anyone else saw them, but ruled it out because you would need to be highly focused examining the sky. I read your report and realized the description matched my sighting.

Note: I have no idea of the identity of these objects. The sighting was in daylight and this fact strengthens the accuracy of the observation.
