Sighting Reports 2010 7 Stationary White Lights Seen in the Night Sky Below Clouds
Date of Sighting: December 24, 2010 Description: The sky was completely black, aside from some orange light pollution on the clouds. But when I looked north while I was driving west, I noticed a cluster of bright white pinpoints (like airplanes, but not). The lights were bigger than any star I have ever seen. There were about 7 of these lights, scattered across a very small portion of the sky almost upwards. As I drove I passed the lights quickly like they were hovering over a place close by. They were all the same magnitude/brightness and did not move from their spots, nor did they blink like an airplane would have. They weren't satellites because nothing was visible behind the dense clouds and satellites move. They hung in the air the whole time I could see them from the car as I drove on. By the time I was on my way back home, the lights had disappeared. I have never seen anything like this before. Another Response From Witness: Hello! Thanks for your quick response. I can guarantee they were not reflected ground lights. Yes, it was cloudy, but those pinpoint lights were far too crisp to be reflections. Thanks anyway for the suggestion though. Note: A check of weather conditions at nearby Pontiac showed that skies were overcast with cloud bases at 2,300 feet. Sometimes bright ground lights can reflect off of low clouds producing an illusion of airborne lights. However, there is no evidence that this was the case.
