Place: Town Korcula, Island Korcula, Croatia
Date: 27. 07. 2010 approximately 21.10 Local time
Situation: There were 2 very similar objects (on the photo there is only one) flying in the constant distance (about 200 meters) and speed (about 60 kilometers/hour) from Southeast to Northwest approximately 200 meter above the ancient town of Korcula (See on Google Earth: 42° 57' 37.02'' North and 17° 09' 04.72'' West).
There were more than 10 witnesses (including myself). We were tourists sitting on the restaurant terrace. We were positioned on the Peninsula Peljesac (village Kuciste) approximately. 2 kilometers across the Adriatic Sea facing the Island and town of Korcula.
Both objects were flushing (like burning), but silent. After approximately 2 minutes they both shut down and disappeared in the darkness.
Note: Photo analysis software indicates following:
ASSESSMENT: Class 4 - Uncertain if processed or original While the EXIF fields indicate original, no compression signatures in the current database were found matching this make/model.
I don't have a ready explanation for these objects. The description (and photo) doesn't fit explainable night phenomena (meteor, satellite, airplane, etc). However, Chinese Lanterns (homemade hot air balloons) can appear like the above photo. It is not known for sure if the objects were Chinese Lanterns. The above photo analysis indicates that the photo is likely authentic and not fabricated.
