Description (First Report by Male Witness): I live in Louisville, Kentucky. I am 44 years old and work as a registered nurse. This summer, in early July, my sister and I took a group of kids camping at Patoka Lake in Indiana. It is located in the Hoosier National Forest. One night we were all in the tents for the night and the kids were asleep. Lights began to flash and were shining on our tent. It looked like someone had flash lights and were swinging them around. I heard foot steps coming into the camp and came to my tent. I decided to play like I was asleep. Who or whatever they were went away. They came back about 15 minutes later. This time my sister, who was in a different tent, had woken up and was yelling at the kids to get back in the tents and to quit playing around. She thought the lights and the sound of foot steps were the kids. I was forced to stand up to confront whoever was there for her protection. However, when I stood up to confront who ever it was, there was no one there. The lights stopped flashing and there was no sound of footsteps leaving the site. My sister was trying very hard to get out of the tent as she had to urinate. By the time she got out, she had urinated on herself. We were trying to figure out what had occurred and I went to the car to get her suite case so she could change her clothes and I urinated on myself. Not long after our trip I noticed a small piece of metal in my thumb nail. It is less than a millimeter across. It has since moved to the edge of my nail bed as my nail has grown. I was wondering if there is any place I can send it off to be examined. A few months after the trip I noticed a similar pattern of flashing light outside my apartment window, but nothing significant happened.

Second Report by Witness: I am dropping the debris particle in the mail today. I removed as much of the thumbnail as was possible with compromising the sample, but there is still a small amount present. I have it stuck on a piece of tape with a yellow paper over it. Therefore, all you will have to do is peel the yellow paper off to see the particle. This trip was to celebrate my nephew's birthday so it took place on or near July 9th of this year. I asked my nephew, who is 11, what he remembered about the incident. He said that he remembers flashing lights and heavy footsteps but nothing more. There were two other children that were there, but live in a different city. I will ask them what the remember and forward their response to you.

Report by Witness Sent With Fragment: Here is the sample of debris. It is placed between yellow paper and stuck on tape. It is sealed in a plastic bag. The metallic splinter was noticed not long after the night that the flashing lights occurred. I cannot explain where it came from as I work as a nurse in a hospital and do no mechanical work. On the camping trip my nephew took care of the campfire and I handled no wood.

Note: The physical effects of the witnesses are unusual and probably related to the "close encounter" with the lights. Perhaps the symptoms could be due to anxiety generated by the experience? It would be useful to obtain more witness reports from the remaining kids on the camping trip. Updates will be posted.

Given the occupation of the witness it seems that he would not have been likely to pick up a sliver or fragment unknowingly. A preliminary analysis revealed that the object was not magnetic nor radioactive. An analysis has been completed by Dr. Sam Lygenar (Technical Director of Technology of Materials Laboratory). The results are displayed below.

Results of X-ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopic Analysis: On January 14, 2011 we received a report from Dr. Sam Lygenar. Dr. Lygenar stated: "Here is the report. It is kind of strange. It looks like some manufactured object. I can't tell more than that."

The fragment is a transparent rectangular piece with a horizontal metal piece at the top. The metal piece was mostly copper with some nickel. These two elements made up 91% of the metallic portion. The main body (rectangular object) was organic. Click here to read official report sent by Dr. Sam Lygenar (PDF).

UFOS Northwest Comment on Analysis: At this time it is uncertain if further analysis can be constructed on fragment to determine if it is of "terrestrial origin." The sample may be too small to subject to additional analysis. One has to ask the question in why a strange metallic fragment shows up under a man's thumb right after a strange encounter in a person that does no mechanical work?

Any updates to this case will be posted.
