Sighting Reports 2010 Super Bright White Dot Like "European Headlights" Falls & Then AscendsDate of Sighting: September 13, 2010 Description: I was jogging from east to west in the Parkrose area. It was a rare "clear night" that we get in Portland. The city's light pollution had most of the stars blocked out. Portland airports flight path was from east to west on this night, so I know it wasn't an airplane. I had a clear view towards Rocky Butte. As I jogged, I just happened to look up in time to see a super bright white dot almost the same color as the European headlights that you see on German cars. However, this was falling to earth towards the Rocky Butte area at an angle of about 50 degrees from the left (facing directly west). It was moving so fast, it appeared to leave a streak of light much like the old video games back in the late 70's and early 80's. Then it seemed to reach about an inch from Rocky Butte (from my vantage point at 130th street). It bounced back up and disappeared while on its path. It would seem it must have taken place right over the area of roughly 82nd and Fremont, but there was no way of telling how big or how far away it was. In a nutshell, you could call it a streak of light. However, as an amateur astronomer of the last 20 years, I can tell you this was definitely not a meteor. Note: Meteors don't reverse direction so this must have been something else. Send Drawings, Photos, or Videos Relating to Your Comments
