Sighting Reports 2010 Man Sees Large Dark Oblong Object Hovering in Daytime SkyDate of Sighting: April 24, 2010 Description: I saw a large, dark object over downtown Seattle. It was not fully round, but not really saucer shaped either. It was sort of oblong with a bulge at the top center. At first I thought it was a hot-air balloon, but they are not allowed that close to the city. It was a very windy day and they don't usually fly in that sort of wind. It was large, not moving, and just holding over the city. I lost sight of it because I was driving. Note: Perhaps the witness caught a glimpse of a blimp? More information has been requested from the witness. Updates will be posted. Comments Received April 27, 2010: I had a similar experience several years ago - twice! What I saw turned out to be an advertizing banner being towed by a light plane. When I first saw it I could only glance at it while driving, and there was a strong impression that it was hovering, I suspect because it is not moving much faster than a car at freeway speeds. Because I could only glance at it briefly, I did not notice the towplane, which is much smaller than the banner. From certain angles the banner, which is actually made of ribbons of material, appears solid and the letters can be invisible at the same low angles. The vanishing happens quite nicely when it turns directly toward or away from you and since it flies a racetrack pattern around the downtown area, it does that periodically.
