Description: Listen to Recording of Police Officer's Sighting Report (MP3)
One of the police officers called and left a voice-mail highlighting his sighting. I subsequently called the police officer back and interviewed both him and his fellow officer who also witnessed the sighting. The officer was at his home and was awakened by skunk that crawled underneath his house. He went outside and saw a light moving eastward, descending and occasionally brightly flashing. After a few minutes his fellow officer who was visiting at the time came out and saw the light. The light continued eastward, but stopped, reversed direction towards the west and then started moving north. Sometimes the light would move in a zigzag motion. The light continued to flash. No sound was heard. The officer stated that he viewed the light through a night scope which further amplified it's radiance. The light grew smaller and then moved out of sight. The sun was beginning to rise at the end of the sighting. Skies were clear at the time of the sighting.
Note: I interviewed both officers. They were both very professional and offered good observations. Their observations agreed in most details. The sighting sounded like it could have been an iridium flare satellite, but the "zigzag" movement and reversal of direction of movement would rule out this explanation. The sun rose at 7:25 AM CDT on the morning of the sighting. Astronomical twilight began at 6 AM meaning that some daylight was available at the time of the sighting.
