Date of Sighting: February 25, 2011 (Sighting Continued Past Midnight)
Time of Sighting: 11:30 PM to 12:45 AM PST
Location of Sighting: Portland, Oregon (See Map)

Description: I saw a light of of substantial size or at least bright enough to appear that way to the West-Southwest of Southeast Portland, OR with a hovering motion for about an hour. It then moved to the north to be due west. It was a bright white light that would turn red then white then blue alternating colors in about 5 second cycles. There were 3 of us that saw it. We sent the video to KGW TV. It appears a lot smaller in the video than it did to the naked eye as it was cell phone footage.

Additonal Witness Report (In Response to Questions): The beginning of our sighting was at 11:30 PM on the 25th and it remained there for about an hour. Then I went on the computer for about 15 minutes. I went back outside at about 12:45 AM on the 26th to see if it was still there and at first I didn't see it. After scanning the sky I noticed it had moved about 15 degrees to the north. I posted an ad on Craig's List asking if anyone else had seen it and got two replies. One viewed it at the same time from Gresham and the other said he saw it as he was traveling to work from St. Helens towards Portland at around 10 PM on the 25th. He said it was red and traveling very fast 200 to 400 feet off of the ground and did not make any noise. I hope this helps.

Note: The video could be of the star Sirius which is the brightest star in the sky. Sirius was in the position and times observed by the witness. Stars can appear to change colors through light refracting from atmospheric pollution or particulates. Skies were totally clear at the time of the sighting. The source of the red lights (triangular formation) that show up in the still image extracted from the video is not known.
