Man Sees Dark Box Like Object Hovering as His Airline Flight
Was Close to Landing.
The Sighting Occurred at San Francisco Airport
Which is Along the Pacific Coast in Northern California.
Date of Sighting: October 13, 2011
Time of Sighting: 2:30 PM PDT
Location of Sighting: San Francisco International Airport (See Map)
Description: On Oct. 13th, 2011, my flight was heading to the San Francisco Airport (SFO), and the scheduled arrival time was around 238 PM. The flight number was United Express #6500. Before the plane landed, I saw a mysterious stationary object hovering in the air. Its location was a mile south of the SFO takeoff runway. It was about a size of a sedan, box shape, and black color. Because of the speed of my flight, I cannot remember what exactly it was like.
Additional Response From Witness:
Per your previous email message, I didn't take any photos, and there could be someone else who saw the object I guess. I was sitting next to the window.
The flight was originated from Seattle.
I cannot remember the model of aircraft. It is neither Airbus 320 nor 737, but it is some type of small jetliner.
The object was a box shaped object with something on top. I am sure it was of dark color. Since the plane was flying so fast, I couldn't see what it is exactly like. The entire scene happened all of a sudden. It's location was approximately 200 feet away from the plane. The reason I reported this was why there was there something stationary hovering so close to the airport or the flight route?
Was it a kite, balloon, small helicopter? I don't know.
These are all I can provide.
Note: The witness has described something that could likely be an "aviation hazard" even if it was a kite or balloon. The witness did present conflicting information from his original report regarding his estimate of the distance of the object from the aircraft. However, this not a reason to discount his report. Anyone else who was on United Express number 6500 on October 13, 2011 is urged to file a report.
