Description: Last night 3/18/2011 at approximately 10:45 PM, my seven year old son and I were returning home from racing go-karts in Tampa Florida. It was a very clear, there was no wind and it was a humid night. We were driving on a road named US 41 heading North to an expressway home to St. Petersburg. The area is fairly rural. Earlier there was a near full moon. I noticed towards my slightly right a bright blue flash and then noticed my entire area of vision including my peripheral was consumed with this glowing beautiful blue flash. It filled the entire sky. It seemed to be located several miles north of us. My seven year old was watching a portable DVD player and this light was so bright he caught it not even looking at it and asked what it was. It lasted for approximately 3 or 4 seconds. I have lived here a long time and have seen many "heat flashes" , "falling stars", and witnessed many power transformers blowing and this was not any of those. It was an incredible thing to see. I have not heard anyone else claiming to see it. I googled blue flash in night sky and pulled several sites yours being one of them. Nothing really explained, but several witnessed what seems to be a similar thing in many different states. Do you have any idea what this could be?

Note: I don't know what would cause this flash. Perhaps it was a large meteor burning up in the atmosphere? A check of the American Meteor Society sighting database showed several sightings over the U.S. on March 18, 2011, but no reports of "blue flashes" were recorded.
