Description (In Witness's Own Words): In the spring of 1966 [probably April] I was in basic training at Ft. Bliss, Tx, near El Paso. It was the last couple of weeks of boot camp and we were on the much anticipated [and dreaded] "night march." I can't remember all the details of the manuever, but I do remember very clearly the amazing event that I saw that night. We had marched up into the hills overlooking Ft. Bliss and were now on our way back. It was probably around 10:00 or 11:00 pm. We were all dead tired, sleepy and imagining how nice it would be to finally get back to the barracks, shower, clean weapons and finally hit the sack. Being a squad leader [acting corporal], I was marching outside the single-file formation, keeping an eye on my guys, and generally paying attention to what was going on around us. Unlike my squad, who were all plodding along, staring at the ground, half asleep. Frequently, I looked down the side of the hills to admire the bright lights of Ft. Bliss, glowing in the darkness below. I had always been attracted to the sight of a town at night as seen from above, since childhood. We still had several miles to travel down the hills before making it back to base, but the distance from our position to the base was no more than a mile or so, "as the crow flies." As far as I now know, I was the only one out of about 250 troops who didn't have his eyes on the ground. As I was taking in the spectacle of Ft. Bliss glowing in the darkness, from the center of the base a bright object flew quickly straight up to maybe 1,000 feet or so, did a fast loop and flew off at an angle a bit above the horizon, and was gone. It happened very quickly, within no more than 1 or 2 seconds. The object was of no discernible shape and it was bright and glowing ) a ball of light). It's movement was unnatural, straight up, loop, and off on a tangent at terrific speed. The object made no sound. It occurs to me as I write this that we would have heard a jet or a missile easily, the night was absolutely silent, except for the boots on the ground. Helicopter? Of course not. the speed and manuever was beyond any rotary wing aircraft. Jet? Missile? No jets. No missiles. Not in the center of Ft. Bliss. Civilians have to understand that an army base is like a small town with residential and business areas. There are no landing strips, or firing ranges there. The Ft. Bliss missile range is about 50 miles away. This was a bright object that was in the center of Ft. Bliss, rose rapidly, looped and took off, so fast few people would happen to see it late in the evening. Except for me. I turned to my squad and shouted "did you see that!??" Nothing. Everyone was sleepily watching the ground for their next step. I don't recall even getting a response. Not even "see what?" A UFO? Of course. What with the many military conflicts around the world since 1966, if any technology on earth was capable of this kind of performance, we would be aware of it by now. I'd like to know if anyone else saw it that night. I imagine that, out of 250 troops, others saw it, too. But there was no way to have a chat about seeing a UFO in a basic training outfit. Maybe there were other sightings that night in the area. Maybe there was a news item in the local media. Let me know what you think..

Investigator's Notes: The veteran has vivid recollection of the sighting that happened over 40 years ago. As he states the object exhibited technology that is not achievable by today's standards. Therefore we know that it wasn't a secret military aircraft because we would know about it by now.
