Location of Sighting: Wolcott, Connecticut
Date of Sighting: July 2, 2016
Time of Sighting: From 9:57 to 10:16 PM EDT
Description: A couple were outside relaxing on their porch and noticed some fireworks. They then noticed several groups of high flying yellow-red-orange objects flying rapidly to the southeast. The objects would appear and vanish in groups of 2 to 4. A total of 15 objects were seen in about a 20 minute period. The objects made no sound. Several photos were taken. Skies were clear at the time of the sighting. The objects emitted constant light. The witnesses were familiar with helicopters and local air traffic and said that the objects were very different.
Note: A check of winds aloft showed that winds were from the Northwest in the lower 5,000 feet of the atmosphere at speeds of up to 30 MPH. The witnesses said that surface winds were very light. The movement of the objects would be consistent with flotation devices. However, it is not known if the objects were Chinese Lanterns or balloons. The witnesses did not believe that the objects were Chinese lanterns. (See update below.)
