January, 2014 – Moore, Oklahoma – 7 PM CDT

Description: I know this might be old news, but I just wanted to share this with you if you were still interested. Last month (January, 2014), my uncle and I were driving towards Moore (I live in Oklahoma) from Oklahoma City. We were on the highway and spotted something that resembled a fireball falling from the sky to our left about a mile away. I thought I was imagining it, but my uncle immediately asked, “What is THAT?”

I thought it could be just a falling star that I had never seen before. But just like other sightings say, it was too small to be a star. Then I figured maybe it could’ve been a falling jet or airplane, but then it just vanished, just like that before hitting the ground.

I went online, thinking it could have been a sun flare entering the earth’s atmosphere. But I couldn’t find anything that explained what I thought it could be.

I would really like to know what my uncle and I saw that day. Do you have any idea what it could have been? If you don’t have an answer for me, I understand. I hope my sighting story helps you in any way.

Note: This sighting fits characteristics of a meteor. A search of the American Meteor Society website (http://www.amsmeteors.org) showed that there were 7 meteor sightings in OK, AR and MO on January 23, 2014. One of the locations was Jay, OK and the sighting time was 7:46 PM CDT. The fireball in this report could have been the same object (meteor). The time discrepancy could be due to witness recollection given that the sighting occurred nearly a month ago.
