Mysterious Moving Bar of Light Triggers Ring Doorbell.

Location of Sighting: Portland, Oregon
Date of Sighting: November 9, 2019
Time of Sighting: 8:08 PM PST

Check out this video I captured on my Ring device. (See above video clip.)

Description: All evening long I have had repeated notifications from my Ring doorbell “motion detected at the front door”.  There is never anyone there, only this mysterious moving bar of light.  I have maybe 20 or more different videos.  I want someone to come check this out.  It scares me.

Witness Response to Investigator Questions: I live in Portland OR.  I have about 19 videos of these occurrences over the course of the evening in to the night. I have captured nothing similar since then.  I concluded that it might have been someone messing around with a light bar suspended from a drone.  But what is perplexing is the many many hours over which these events occurred, plus some views that seem to show wispy trails from the bottom of the bar, and some instances where the bar fades out and then reappears, and when a small portion of the bar becomes unlit.  I am such a believer in alien life and prefer to regard this as an other worldly, not necessarily malevolent, event.  Thank you for your response.  In the light of day I am not at all fearful. So much of my alarm was due, no doubt, to a lifetime fear of the dark.  And there has been no similar activity since that night.  Oh yes, I do indeed have a small portable motion detector light I had forgotten, so the greenish light that would appear suddenly in some of the videos came on as a result of the motion of the object.

Investigator Note: I first thought that the object could be a reflection, but given that the motion detector was triggered that may not be a good explanation. Also the witness only saw the object on one night. The green light on the upper left corner of the still image means that the motion detector has been triggered resulting in video footage,.

We had a beam of light on our front porch that seemed to be coming from our door, but it was not. When going outside it was gone. It only showed up on the security camera on our doorbell. Last night there were two lights seemingly connected together and waving around like the first night. My wife removed them from her phone before I could stop her. but we will be watching tonight and will save the videos. This happened in Beaumont, Texas from darkness to after midnight. If this happens again we will document it and send.

Hey! I know a lot of people have recorded this type of thing and said they’re cobwebs, but I have a really weird video I took last week, while I was outside withthese lights. I’d be happy to send it to you so you can give me your thoughts. The way these linear lights moved around and maneuvered themselves did honestly not correlate w/the whole cobweb theory. I was also kind of telepathically communicating with them and they’d do things related to what I was thinking. Let me know if you’d like to see it & we can connect.

    • Daniella says:

By the way, the video was taken in Long Island, New York last week on June 25 around 12:45AM to 3:00 AM.

    • Jean Quintana says:

Daniella, I also do not believe the cobweb theory. I accidentally caught a still and when you blow it up it should show that it resembles a cob web in some fashion, but this does not look like anything other than a strange bar of light that moves in a mysteriously purposed manner. I just got a doorbell/camera and I have seen spiders and webs floating in the air. This can’t be that. So I say prove it. How many people are seeing this phenomenon?

  3. LH says:

I had the same thing happen tonight. I walked outside followed the beam of light. It shows it on me. It is definitely not a spider web. I have no clue what it is, but it’s the first time I have ever seen it on my ring doorbell and it’s been going on for about an hour.

    • Mary WJ says:

I was awakened at 4:25 AM by the sound of my ring doorbell. The video shows a large light source quickly moving across the doorbell very quickly from left to right. It appears to look like very faint bars of light that would resemble rain, but there is no rain.

  4. John R. says:

There was a blue beam coming from the camera are in/around back porch. Does anyone know what this could be?

    • Administrator says:

It is a spider web. I am looking at one right on one of my security cameras. I frequently have to remove spider webs from my cameras.

  5. Lisa A says:

I captured something strange on my ring this morning. Titusville, NJ

  6. Philip T. says:

I experienced a similar phenomenon this evening in front of my home in Irvine, California. It occurred around 8:30 PM Saturday night April 4, 2020

  7. William M. says:

I’ve captured the same thing on my ring. It is not spider webs and why does it set off that there is motion?

  8. Buddy says:

I have these same objects captured on my ring camera and if you look closely on a good monitor there are beams of light emitted from the bottom of the object onto my driveway and even my house. This is definitely NOT a spider web. I thought maybe it was, but after closer examination of several videos, it is something mechanical like a drone. I have no idea who or what is controlling these things. Another question is why are they attracted to the ring camera? Maybe the infrared light?

Also, look at some of the YouTube videos out there closely and into the dark areas near the thing’s flight and you will see the beams of light it emits. It is just Weird.

  9. Rebecca J. says:

This is actually a spider web. I had the same sighting on my RING with multiple motion alerts. Finally, a spider came into view on my camera and it was very obvious that it was weaving a web; hence why the “light bar” kept floating around. I still have my video if you’re interested in seeing it. Not a UFO anymore!

    • Administrator says:

Yes, I believe that spider webs can cause these anomalies. I have security cameras and see this from time to time.

      Thanks for your comments.

    • Pam says:

I have a number of videos from my ring doorbell of something similar. It is not cobwebs as they move off camera and then reappear. I am not sure what they are, but they are definitely interesting.

  10. Alfred says:

I believe it’s a spider web. They can be quite reflective to IR.

  11. Shaun W. says:

Hello Will. I actually just had something similar show up on my ring doorbell. I uploaded to this site, but here is the youtube link. If you would please answer one question for me. Do you work for the government? Simple yes or no would be fine.

  12. j says:

It’s something attached close to the field of view near camera like a spider web string with a tiny stick stuck to it blowing in the wind. It just looks further away than it is and bigger too than it is. Simple explanation (Occam’s Razor).

  13. Jim says:

It looks and moves a lot like a Spider web thread illuminated by a light source. (Spider at bottom?). There are lots of problems with RING, etc. doorbells being activated by bugs, etc. See web search.

    • Administrator says:

Thanks for the comments. Yeah it could something like a spider. Occasionally, I see them on my security cameras. I have more problems will spiders building which obstruct the lens covers of my cameras.
