Radar Analysis: The radar return was to the southwest of the photo location and was detected about 20 minutes before the photo was taken. This is not radar confirmation, but the object could have been traveling to the northeast and may be the object in the photo. However, no returns were detected at the exact location and time of the photo. The radar return is the only return in a several mile radius of where the photo was taken.
Description: My security camera caught this strange object. I have set my camera to upload images every 5 minutes. The object was not visible on images taken 5 minutes before and 5 minutes after the above image. The object appeared in the approach pattern of Helena Airport. It is obviously not a regular aircraft. I have been collecting images for about 10 months. This is the first image that shows something strange.
Note: I have reviewed incoming and outgoing flights from Helena Airport on Oct 16, 2014. A SkyWest flight arrived from Salt Lake City at 12:21 PM. A SkyWest flight departed to Salt Lake City at 12:39 PM MDT. (This is the closest flight to when the camera caught the object, but the aircraft likely was not in the view of the camera at 12:51 PM.) Another SkyWest flight departed to Salt Lake City at 1:06 PM. These are known flights that filed flight plans. VFR (Visual Flight Range) flights would not be included on the airport arrival/departure log. Of course it is quite unlikely that the above object was a regular aircraft.
