Location of Sighting: Detroit Lake, Oregon
Date of Sighting: August 21, 2017
Time of Sighting: 10:21 AM PDT
Description: This odd image was taken during the eclipse. Whatever this is it’s moving fast. I am guessing it traveled a half to one mile from the picture. The camera shutter speed was 1/250 to 1/500th of a second. One mile in 1/500th of a second equals 1,800,000 MPH.
Note: The witness’s speed estimate of the object is based on an estimate of the distance of the object from the camera lens. I suspect that the object was quite close to the camera lens and could have been an insect.Note to Commenters: If you are reporting a sighting, be sure to include the location (city, state, country), date and time of your sighting. It looks like a pulse jet contrail to me.
I believe you may have caught a flying rod in your photo.
I recall some previous sightings similar to this and it was written off as insects. I doubt that in this case. I also don’t think it’s a lens flare.
