Location of Sighting: Portland, Oregon
Date of Sighting: October 28, 2019
Time of Sighting: 9:15 PM PDT
Description: I saw a stationary bright red light quite high in the north-northwest sky at about 9:15 PM that caught my eye. From my location in Southeast Portland and with the naked eye it appeared as a single red light. It was very unusual so I grabbed my camera and when I zoomed in I found it to be three individual lights in a group, two red one green. It appeared approximately 70 degrees above the horizon north-northwest from my location possibly as if high above the Portland Airport. I watched for about five minutes and in the dark used the silhouette of a large fir tree to see if I could detect any movement. It appeared stationary. Being close to Portland Airport and in a flight path I have seen all types of aircraft coming and going over the years. Because it wasn’t moving and too high up I ruled out a helicopter, and I didn’t detect any sound. The brightness and position was unusual. I have not seen anything like it before. The sky was clear with a strong east wind blowing so it was high enough to not be effected by the wind. I went in the house to upload the photo and when I returned it was gone. I emailed a local TV weather desk about it at the time and didn’t get a reply, but I realized their location on the west side of town would have probably placed it in a different location in the sky from their vantage point. I don’t know what it was, but it sure caught my attention.
Note: Analysis of metadata included with the photo file indicates that the file was not edited by the witness and is the original. Inversion of the photo indicates that the lights could have been attached to a triangular object.Note to Commenters: If you are reporting a sighting, be sure to include the location (city, state, country), date and time of your sighting.
